As Election Day approaches on May 3, Plano residents will have the opportunity to decide who will represent them in the Plano ISD Board of Trustees Place 3. The upcoming election showcases two candidates whose visions reflect key issues and innovative solutions aimed at shaping the future of education in Plano ISD.

Nancy Humphrey: Experienced Leadership and Financial Stewardship

Nancy Humphrey, a retired accountant and auditor, offers 15 years of experience on the Plano ISD school board. Her campaign focuses on leveraging her financial expertise and relationships to uphold the district’s tradition of excellence. 

Humphrey highlights several pressing challenges: 

  • Managing inflationary cost pressures. 
  • Teacher recruitment and retention. 
  • Addressing the achievement gap in student outcomes. 
  • Ensuring school safety. 

She aims to tackle these issues by engaging with local lawmakers, testifying in Austin, and supporting programs like the Teacher Incentive Allotment and Quest for aspiring teachers. 

When asked about the kind of governance she will prioritize, she said:

“(One) that supports data-driven strategies for student success at every level.”

She also promises to ensure financial transparency and advocacy for critical funding while retaining local decision-making. Above all, she is committed to listening to the community and ensuring every student receives the support they need to succeed.

Harper Weaver: Oversight and Open Communication

His campaign highlights the need for proactive solutions to ensure every child feels secure and supported in their educational journey.
