The Shadow of a Tree

“Have you not considered how Allah presents an example of a good word like a good tree, whose root is firmly fixed and its branches high in the sky?” (Surah Ibrahim 14:24)

The old tree stood in the middle of the village, its thick branches stretching wide, offering shade to anyone who sought refuge under it. Children played beneath its canopy, weary travelers rested under its cool shade, and the poor sat by its trunk, sharing whatever little food they had.

No one knew who had planted it.

But one man did.

Abdul Rahman stood at a distance, watching the tree sway gently with the wind. He was old now, his hands wrinkled,

his back slightly bent. Yet, in his eyes, the same spark remained—the memory of a single seed.

Decades ago, when he was just a young boy, his mother had handed him a small seed.

“Plant this, my son. One day, it will give more than you can imagine.”

At the time, he didn’t understand. It was just a seed—small, almost insignificant.

But he planted it.

Years passed. The sapling grew into a tree.

And now, it stood tall and strong, giving shade, shelter, and peace to everyone who passed by.

Abdul Rahman smiled as he saw a poor man sitting against its trunk, feeding birds with crumbs from his meal.

His mother was right.

A good deed, no matter how small, continues to grow—long after we are gone.

Moral: A single good action can create blessings for generations to come.
