Collin College has been awarded over $1.35 million in Skills Development Fund (SDF) grants by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) to provide customized training for more than 840 new and existing employees across 13 North Texas businesses. This initiative aims to bolster workforce skills in high-demand sectors such as healthcare, manufacturing, accounting, and information technology.

The funding, announced on April 9, 2025, encompasses four grants totaling $1,352,957. These grants will facilitate over 26,000 hours of specialized training, benefiting both current employees and new hires in Collin County. The training programs are tailored to meet the specific needs of participating companies, ensuring that the workforce is equipped with relevant and up-to-date skills.

Governor Greg Abbott emphasized the importance of such investments, stating, “Investing in our workforce is critical for the success of the Texas economy. I thank the Texas Workforce Commission for their partnership with community colleges across the state to ensure Texans have the skills they need to thrive in the economy of tomorrow.

The Skills Development Fund, established by the Texas Legislature in 1995 and administered by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), is designed to support businesses by financing the design and implementation of customized job-training projects. Since its inception, the program has funded training opportunities for more than 4,900 employers and supported over 435,000 jobs in Texas.

Collin College’s role in this initiative underscores its commitment to serving as a hub for workforce development in the region. By collaborating with local businesses and leveraging state resources, the college aims to enhance the skill levels and wages of the Texas workforce, contributing to the state’s economic growth and competitiveness.
