Elected to the Dallas City Council in June 2017, Omar Narvaez represents District 6, a community his family has called home for over 80 years. Currently serving as Chair of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and Vice Chair of Economic Development, Narvaez plays a pivotal role in shaping Dallas’ future.
A Commitment to Economic Growth and Sustainability
During his tenure, Narvaez has been a strong advocate for fair wages and local job creation. His successful negotiation of a $15 per hour minimum wage and a 40% local hiring requirement for 1,500 new Amazon jobs exemplifies his dedication to economic justice. Additionally, he played a key role in bringing Nokia’s North American headquarters to Dallas, strengthening the city’s position as a hub for business and innovation.
Narvaez has also championed environmental initiatives, serving as Chair of the Environment and Sustainability Committee. His work has led to significant improvements in local parks, trails, and aquatics facilities, including the opening of new splash grounds and the development of regional aquatics centers.
Infrastructure and Community Development
Understanding the importance of strong infrastructure, Narvaez has worked diligently to enhance connectivity and safety within his district. His efforts to link the Bachman Loop to other trail systems and install new walking trails around the Pavaho Wetlands highlight his commitment to sustainable urban planning. Additionally, his advocacy secured $350 million from the Army Corps of Engineers to complete Dallas’ flood control plan, ensuring long-term resilience for the city.

Narvaez’s dedication to public service extends beyond his elected office. He has served as president of the Stonewall Democrats of Dallas and vice president of LULAC 4871, where he received the inaugural “Nuestro Orgullo Award.” His past roles also include serving as a Dallas County Schools Trustee and as a member of various city commissions and nonprofit boards, such as the Sixth Floor Museum and the Bishop Arts Cultural Center.
