Zohaib ‘Zo’ Qadri: A Champion for Austin’s Future

A Leader for District 9

Elected in 2022, Zohaib “Zo” Qadri represents District 9 in Austin, advocating for the diverse communities of Downtown, Rainey St., Old West Austin, West Campus, Hyde Park, Travis Heights, Bouldin Creek, Mueller, Cherrywood, and beyond. Passionate about housing affordability, equitable transit, and supporting vulnerable citizens, Zo works tirelessly to ensure Austin remains a city of opportunity for all.

From Immigrant Roots to Public Service

Born to immigrant parents, Zo moved to Texas at the age of 12 with his family. Initially pursuing a degree in biology at the University of Texas, he later shifted to humanities after witnessing the struggles of Austin’s most vulnerable residents amid rising costs of living. His commitment to public service led him to earn a Master of Public Administration from Texas State University and a graduate degree in Global Affairs from Rice University.

Political and Advocacy Experience

After completing his education, Zo dedicated himself to community organizing and political activism. He played a key role in Beto O’Rourke’s 2018 U.S. Senate campaign, leading outreach efforts to AAPI voters. He later gained legislative experience as a legislative assistant in the Texas House of Representatives and honed his leadership skills during Elizabeth Warren’s 2020 presidential campaign as a Regional Organizing Director in South Carolina.

Beyond campaigns, Zo has worked on strategic initiatives for progressive causes, advising advocacy groups on utilizing technology and forming alliances to drive meaningful policy change.

Commitment to Community and Service

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Zo volunteered with local aid organizations such as Austin Needs Water, the Central Texas Food Bank, and the Del Valle Community Coalition, ensuring underserved communities had access to vital resources. He has served on advisory committees and boards, including the Travis County Democratic Party, Austin Muslim Democrats, Asian Democrats of Central Texas, and Emgage USA. Currently, he sits on the board of Ground Game Texas.

A Personal Connection to Austin

Zo lives in Central Austin with his wife, Wafa, a physician assistant at Baylor Scott & White, and their cat, Daisy Mae. His journey—from an immigrant child in Texas to a dedicated public servant—serves as an inspiration for many. As he continues to lead District 9, Zo remains committed to creating a more inclusive and thriving Austin for future generations.
